Closing the year of celebrations for the 300th Anniversary of Italia composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, the Donegal Chamber Music Society and Co. This evening of reflection and music on Saturday 11th December at 8.30pm (after evening mass) will be presented by the Donegal Chamber Orchestra and the Conwal Singers. The guest conductor will be Justo Manuel Jiménez Fábregas, an experienced specialist in choral groups, wind ensembles and orchestral conducting. The performance will also include music by
Vivaldi, Bach, Manfredini and Boyce. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
This event is organized by the Donegal Chamber Music Society and brings to a close a busy year of activities in partnership with the Regional Cultural Centre, Co. Donegal VEC MEP and An Grianan Theatre. Some of this year's highlights: the Concert Series at RCC, the Concerto Málaga performance at An Grianan and the 2nd Cello Meeting Ireland. The Society is looking forward to 2011 and to collaborating with national associations such as Music Network in order to foster the growing appreciation of Classical Music in Donegal.
The Donegal Chamber Orchestra, one of the Co. Donegal VEC ensembles, has enjoyed a very successful year with sold-out concerts at the Errigal Festival, broadcasting programmes in RTE Radio's "Sunday Miscellany" and the opportunity to work with the celebrated Irish composer Ian Wilson through the "Artist in the Community Scheme" -an award facilitated by Create and the Arts Council. Next year the DCO will celebrate 5 years of collaboration with many new projects. The Pergolesi Magnificat will be sung by the Conwal Singers, directed by Graham Harrison. Earlier this year the Singers performed in the RCC, in Vienna and (together with Prof. Desmond Hunter) at the national Culture Night in September.
